Configuring printers within a LivePC and expected printer functionalities   « Go Back
Here is a summary of what to expect while configuring printers for use within a LivePC.

Corporate printers:
  • These should be installed in the Moka5 image as you would a physical laptop
Home printers (simple):
  • Moka5 has enabled printing pass through from guest to host installed printers
  • Printers installed on the host appear in the guest in a print dialog as “Host – XXXX”. Where XXXX is the printer name
  • This is controlled by a management server policy “Printing on host printers”
  • This will only enable basic printing to these devices. If more detailed control / multifunction is required see the next section
Home printers (complex print jobs / multifunction):
  • If the simple passthrogh does not give the appropriate functionality then Moka5 recommends the following
  • USB printers
    • Connect the device to the host
    • Pass the device from host into the guest via USB (use the VMware menu / icon system for this)
    • The device will show up in the guest as a new device and attempt to install drivers / software
    • If this succeeds you are done. If not you may need to go to the manufacture site and download the specific drivers/software and install manually
  • Network printers
    • Manually run through the add printer wizard and add a network printer
    • Choose the printer concerned
    • Follow the normal flow for adding your printer
  • PLEASE NOTE: if you leave the “Printing on host printers” policy as enabled this printer will now show up in the print dialog twice. One as “Host – XXXX” and once as “XXXX”. The user should choose “XXXX” to get all functionality. If this is confusing then we suggest turning off the policy and the “Host – XXXX” entry will not be visible.
