I. INTRODUCTION

This document contains a summary of requirements and other useful information for Moka5 Engine for Windows XP.


 
II. HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM

The Moka5 Engine works with Window XP Home, Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Pro Media Center Editions with Service Pack 2.

An account with local administrator privileges or a Host configured with Moka5 Engine for use with guest/limited user accounts.

IV. REPORTING SOFTWARE DEFECTS

Please report any software errors / defects you find in the system. Please report the errors to the Moka5 Support Forum at http://www.moka5.com/forum/2.


 
V. SUPPORT / QUESTIONS / TROUBLESHOOTING

If you are having problems using the Moka5 Engine, need support or have technical questions, please use the Moka5 Support Forum at http://www.moka5.com/forum/2.

In the event that a support log is required, press Ctrl-Shift-F1 at the main user interface and moka5support.zip will be placed on your desktop.


 
VI. KNOWN LIMITATIONS

GUEST/LIMITED USER ACCOUNT
Network mounted user files is not available for Guest user accounts. Fast User Switching is not supported while multiple users are logged onto the computer. Log off of all other user accounts prior to running Moka5 Engine with a Guest/Limited user account. (#4134).

VMware Workstation 4.x
The Moka5 Engine is not compatible with VMware Workstation 4.x or 5.0. VMware Workstation 5.5.x works with Moka5 Engine. (#2793/2794).

VMware ACE
The Moka5 Engine is not compatible with VMware ACE.

VMware Server
The Moka5 Engine is not compatible with VMware Server.

SOFTWARE APPLICATION NOTES
Internet monitoring software applications such as McAfee's Security Alert and others (such as Zone Alarm) may generate alerts when starting the Moka5 Engine for the first time or after completing an Moka5 Engine Update. The Moka5 Engine requires access to the Internet to operate. These applications need to be configured to "Granted Access" or added to the Approved List (#1401, 1544).

ZoneAlarm: Add the programs to Program Control, Programs Tab

McAfee Security Center: Add the programs to Personal firewall plus, Internet Applications, New Allowed Applications.

FIREWALL
93 Sunbelt Software Kerio Personal Firewall 4 may result in an error with
94 CreateRemoteThread when starting a LivePC (#2488).
Please use the Legacy Version 4.2.3.912 or disable the Block executable code injection under the HIPS, Advanced section.

ANTIVIRUS
Norton AntiVirus: On some systems with Norton AntiVirus, LivePCs may have may not be able to access the user files. The Event log will report 2011 (#2274). http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;177078

HOST SUSPEND/HIBERNATION
VMware Player 1.0.x and suspending the Host is not supported by Moka5 Engine. It is recommended that the LivePC be suspended and the user interface be closed prior to completing Host suspends. (#2057).

LIVEPC ENGINE FEATURES

PACKAGE
None.

IMPORTING
Sparse and Snapshot VMware virtual machines are not supported.

LIVEPC
1. LivePCs do not fully support USB 2.0; when connecting a USB 2.0 device, the LivePC falls back to USB 1.1. (#449).
2. iPODs connected to a USB 2.0 may result in an unstable LivePC (#1336).
3. Starting a LivePC with incorrectly configured memory settings may result in random applications closing. (#1400). Shutdown the LivePC and configure an appropriate memory setting.
4. The LivePC may not report when the Disk is full (#1494).
5. Mouse pointer may disappear temporarily during intense IO operations in the LivePC. (#1388).

USER FILES
The User Files feature is only supported when the Ethernet Connection is set to NAT (#2092).

USB REMOVABLE STORAGE DEVICE
Media Memory Card Readers
Please check the manufacturer's documentation for compatibility between the card reader and card memory. Some SD card readers will not work with the larger capacity memory cards. (#1367).

Memory Card Reader Performance
Some integrated memory card readers on the host system are slow. It is recommended that a USB 2.0 Memory card reader be used to obtain better performance. (#1367).

Import/Packaging
Importing and packaging may be slow on some USB devices. (#2286).

Do not select the USB Device in the VMware Tool bar. Deselecting the USB that is running the Moka5 Engine may result in errors. (#703).

Moving USB to a different host - Best Practice.
Suspended and resuming LivePCs on different hosts are not supported. A Processor warning may appear when the host computers have different processor types. (#2087). Before moving the Moka5 Engine/USB to another host use the shutdown option instead of the Suspending the LivePC.

Resuming from a Suspended LivePC with User Files may result in user files to not show up. Shutdown and restart the LivePC. (#2637).

Service Processor/Guest Service
LivePCs that have the Service Processor feature enabled does not support suspending or resuming.

3-D Accelerated Graphics
Google Earth running in DirectX is not supported. This may result in the host being unstable.
3-D Acceleration is not supported on a Vista Host. Guest/Limited User Accounts are not supported with 3-D.


 
VII. LIVEPC CREATION

When creating a Window NT 4.0 LivePC, install Windows NT 4.0 with a single disk. Remove the IDE 0:1 in the LivePC Configuration prior to installing. Otherwise, after reboot of Windows NT 4.0, it will report "Missing Operating System". After the installation is completed, add other disks if required (#1698).

In Unattended Windows XP Installation only English User Names are supported.


 
VIII. UNINSTALL

Use Windows Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. For USB Devices, select m5uninstall.exe at the root of the USB drive letter.


 
IX. RESTORING TO USB DEVICES

After restoring from a backup, the LivePC buffering status bar will remain empty. Click the buffering option when connected to the network to update the buffer again (#1917).
