Moka5 Launches Project SkyNet Tech Preview
Next Generation Client Container for the Cloud-driven Mobile Enterprise Now Available for Preview
(Redwood City, Calif. – Feb. 24, 2015) – Moka5, the leading provider of next generation end-user computing solutions, today announced the availability of a Tech Preview for its newest container code-named Project SkyNet. Project SkyNet enables enterprise IT to become device- and platform-independent with a lightweight client container for secure usage of SaaS and on-premises web applications and document repositories on managed and unmanaged devices – all without requiring VPN access or virtualization technology.
Enterprise exposure to endpoint data leakage risks from cloud-based services such as Salesforce.com, Office 365 and Box is growing rapidly. Microsoft recently disclosed that 45% of Q4 2014 Office renewals moved to their cloud-based service. Additionally, an overwhelming 95% of Moka5 Cloud Security Survey respondents are concerned with endpoint data leakage from cloud-based services, with 66% having already adopted or planning to adopt a cloud-based service within 12-18 months.
Cloud-based services free users to access enterprise resources from any device with a browser. While this freedom can be a productivity multiplier, it also exposes enterprises to new endpoint data leakage concerns and regulatory and compliance risks. Project SkyNet balances the security versus usability challenge by giving users the flexibility to use the right device at the right time, while delivering unobtrusive, lightweight enterprise security controls to prevent data leakage.
In addition to securing usage of cloud-based resources, Project SkyNet enables platform-independent secure usage of on-premises web applications and file repositories such as SharePoint, network file shares, Outlook Web Access (OWA) and internal web apps by leveraging an integrated container-level secure connection back to the enterprise. Additionally, with a fully integrated Office doc viewer and editor, users can be productive both online and offline.
“Industry trends like BYO and cloud computing are forcing IT to rethink current client strategies and move beyond legacy virtualization and agent-based management approaches,” said Dave Robbins, CEO Moka5. “With increasing adoption of cloud-based services, mixed ownership models for client hardware, and greater emphasis on mobility, a platform-independent management and security solution has become paramount – one that isn’t tied to a company-managed OS and device. We believe that Project SkyNet extends the lead Moka5 has established in client-side container solutions and significantly ups the ante in what Enterprise IT should expect from vendors in this area. We encourage qualified IT professionals to try the Tech Preview release of SkyNet and see for themselves how beneficial it can be for their overall client strategy.”
SkyNet Tech Preview features include:
- Support for Windows PCs as well as iOS and Android devices (a Mac client is currently in development)
- AES 256-bit encrypted storage of files for offline use
- Policy-based data leakage controls including remote wipe, copy/paste, drag-and-drop, among others
- Integrated offline-capable viewer and editor to view, annotate, and edit documents in on- and off-premises repositories
- Container-level secure enterprise connectivity that routes container traffic through the enterprise (or a cloud-based intermediary) for visibility and policy control
- Single sign-on (SSO) to enable seamless access to web apps
- Host assessment controls to assess device integrity before granting access to the container
