Today, we announced the launch of M5 LivePC version 4.0, a core component of the M5 Enterprise AnyWare platform. Code-named Vanguard, LivePC v4 uses client-side virtualization technology to enable Windows and Macs to run a fully configured and encrypted corporate desktop within a highly secure, centrally managed container. In other words, Vanguard gives IT an edge. By combining unprecedented scalability and security with a great user experience, you’ll be able to guarantee client performance while simplifying its overall management footprint and significantly reducing costs.

So what’s new? Core enterprise features that matter to IT include:

Scalability – Moka5 Vanguard allows for 14,000 containers per management server—compared to 50 to 100 for standard VDI images—achieved via 64-bit architecture and improved connection handling, caching, and SSL performance.

As a result, Moka5 Vanguard means a significantly improved total cost of ownership profile compared to VDI.

Manageability – Moka5 Vanguard’s container management REST APIs allow IT to integrate revoke, unrevoke, kill in to existing tools such as systems management or help desk. Self-service REST APIs make it possible to also integrate self-service provisions capabilities into existing portals.

Security – Moka5 Vanguard provides improved host security assessment with an integrated host malware check. A more robust file transfer between Primary Image Stores and Moka5 Replicas / Amazon S3 Replicas is also available with Moka5 Vanguard.

New Enterprise End-User Computing that Considers the End-User

As you’ve come to expect, Vanguard also continues our focus on the end-user experience. Not only does LivePC v4 consider the scalability, manageability, and security that matters to IT, it also gives the end-user controls over when PC container and Window image updates are downloaded, allowing for better bandwidth management and lower cellular data network charges. Other end-user focused features include:

  • Automated system compatibility checks prior to download of the Moka5 container and Windows image, providing end-users with user-friendly guidance early in the provisioning process
  • The ability to view video and use VoIP from inside the container, a common limitation in VDI environments
  • User-friendly error handling and messaging to maximize self-service and minimize help desk calls
